Behind The Design: Fall-Winter '24

The Sunday Collective is thrilled to unveil our latest childrenswear collection, Fall-Winter '24, inspired by the theme "Adventure is Calling." This season, our designs celebrate the great outdoors, nostalgia, and the boundless curiosity that defines childhood. To give you an inside look at the creative process behind this collection, we sat down with our lead designer, Kendall Loftus, who shared insights into the inspiration, design choices, and meticulous attention to detail that went into composing each piece.

When asked how the theme "Adventure is Calling" influenced the collection, Kendall explained, "'Adventure is calling' takes cues from the vintage scout aesthetic of the 60s and 70s. There was a time when some of America's most iconic fashion designers, like De La Renta, Halston, and Bill Blass, had a hand in scout uniforms. We've taken key design elements from those uniforms and interpreted them into our signature TSC style—think kick pleats, added pockets, and utility hardware & embellishments."

This blend of nostalgia and modern functionality is at the heart of the collection. "Incorporating this idea of preparedness in everyday clothing is key because every day is an adventure," Kendall added. The result is a range of pieces that are not only stylish but also equipped for the rigors of childhood exploration.

A defining feature of this season's collection is its unique prints and patterns, all of which are rooted in the theme of adventure. "A lot of this season's prints include elements that our TSC adventure scout would find in nature—birds, trees, and mountains," Kendall shared. These prints evoke the serenity and majesty of the great outdoors, inviting children to explore the world around them.

However, The Sunday Collective's roots in New York City are always close. Kendall revealed, "As NYC is our home, we still had to include one New York print in the collection." This nod to the city seamlessly blends urban and natural themes, reflecting the diverse environments that today's young explorers navigate.

The transition from fall to winter can be dramatic, and this change was a significant consideration in the collection's choice of fabrics and textures. "The transition from fall to winter can be pretty drastic in many parts of the world, so we wanted to include a wide variety of fabrics," Kendall noted.

"For the early fall days that might still be retaining the summer heat, our cotton jerseys, cotton gingham, or hemp/cotton oxford may be preferable. But, for when the days start getting colder, we have a range of cozier fabrics & materials—sherpa, brushed flannel, corduroy, and plush velour."

Designing for children requires a careful balance between comfort, durability, and style—something that The Sunday Collective heavily considers. "We take the opinions of our customer base very seriously," Kendall emphasized. "We take into account any feedback we have gotten throughout each season and apply improvements to fit, comfortability, and longevity wherever possible."

Every piece in the Fall-Winter '24 collection undergoes extensive testing to ensure the highest quality. "Ensuring that our clothes are durable is a top priority at TSC. This is why every season, our entire collection goes through extensive rounds of testing to confirm the garment and fabric construction aligns with our standards," Kendall added.

The Fall-Winter '24 collection from The Sunday Collective is an invitation to explore, discover, and embrace the spirit of adventure in every child. With influences from iconic fashion eras, thoughtful design elements, and a steadfast commitment to quality, this collection is ready to accompany your little ones on their next great adventure.
